Employment Check, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Nick Savala and operated as Savala Investigative Services. In 1995 Savala Investigative Services began doing business as Savala & Associates.

The focus of the company was to provide investigative services to employers that had experienced internal losses via embezzlement, internal theft, trademark infringement, substance abuse in the workplace, workers’ compensation fraud and workplace violence. Services Employment Check, Inc. continues to provide.

During the course of the hundreds of employee misconduct investigations we identified a pattern of previous malfeasant activity by the employees we identified to be culpable in our investigations. Many of the employers by whom we were contracted did not have a pre-employment screening program in place. After identifying the need for thorough applicant screening we began designing screening protocols for our clients.

As awareness for the need of structured screening programs became more prevalent in the business community Savala & Associates adapted to the needs of our clients and shifted the focus of our mission to the prevention of misconduct from the detection of misconduct. A much more fiscally sound decision by employers. In 2002 Savala & Associates became Employment Check, Inc.; a name change that more accurately reflected our mission and service to our clients.

A wave of changes to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) beginning in 1997 and continuing through the recent Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) have significantly increased the responsibility of employers to maintain compliance with federal and state laws which govern the use of consumer reports (background checks) when used for employment purposes. Employment Check, Inc. is committed to structuring search protocols that guide employers safely through a myriad of state and federal compliance regulations.
